Six Month Update
Emma had her six month check-up and shots yesterday. She may have started out life as a little peanut in the 5th percentile for weight and 15th percentile for height but Emma has spent the last six months trying to catch up. As of yesterday, she weighed 15 lbs, 11 oz. (40-50th percentile) and was 25 1/2 inches (40-50th percentile) in height. Emma made the doctor laugh as she demonstrated how good her big toe is for sucking on. She also wowed her doctor by pushing back on those little legs. She is starting to get that belly off the ground and propelling herself backward. Brad said she scooted herself back a good 2-3 feet yesterday morning when they were playing. It is already getting hard to contain her; what will it be like when she is crawling? Emma really enjoyed playing with the paper on the exam table but was less than thrilled when it was time for her shots. She started crying in anticipation and was so upset after the first injection that her little face turned bright red and she couldn't get a sound out because she forgot to take a breath. Once she got it out, it was about the angriest cry that Brad and I have heard. Thankfully the crying was short lived after the shots were done but we were so happy to hear that there are no shots at the 9 month appointment; just a little finger prick. It's just too bad that they don't understand that this is all for their own good.

Emma's 6 Months Old Today!
How can Emma already be six months old or as her geeky dad puts it, 5E-01? She has come so far in these past six months. She now rolls over both ways, has two teeth, sits up with assistance, eats solids, reaches for everything, laughs and smiles regularly, and pushes up on her arms. Those are the major things that we can think of and I am sure that we have left something off the list. These last six months have been amazing watching our little girl grow and develop. We look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.

Update on Emma's Teeth
Yes, you read it right, teeth and not tooth! Emma has cut both of her lower, central incisors. It is amazing how her sleeping improved once both teeth broke through the gums. We try quite often to get a glimpse of the teeth but Emma is quite protective and doesn't want to move that tongue out of the way. Watch out though if you get your finger near her mouth because those little things are sharp. On another note, Emma spent her first night in her room last night. I am sure that the transition was much easier on her than mom and dad who have gotten used to having her in the pack and play at the end of our bed. Everything went smoothly and she never woke up in a panic about being in a different room. It probably helps that she has been napping in her crib and all her diaper changes are in her room. Our little girl is growing up and way too fast.

Two Videos for the Price of One
Here is a short video clip of Emma blowing some raspberries (one of her favorite pastimes currently) and as promised, a short clip of Emma enjoying her bananas. You'll notice how helpful she can be when it comes to eating.

Yes, We Have Bananas
I think that we have found our favorite food to date. Emma tried bananas yesterday for the first time and loved them. She was like a little baby bird with her mouth wide open in anticipation of the next bite. Brad couldn't scoop it up quick enough. I got a little video, which I will post later this week.
It seems as though the rolling machine is realizing that she can use this new ability to get to things. We had her out on her blanket yesterday while we ate some lunch. At some point, Emma became fixated on Brad's plate and decided she must have it (probably to put in her mouth like everything else). She reached and realizing that she was a little far away, rolled a couple of times so that the plate was within arm's reach. There was definitely no accident to her movement, which was exciting to see even though she didn't really need to help Brad hold the plate. It is fun watching as she starts to put things together. The following are just a couple of photos taken this weekend.

No More Toothless Grin?
It seems as though Emma is working on cutting her first tooth. You can definitely feel it if you rub her gums. We have managed to see the start of the tooth a couple of times but Emma is not so cooperative when it comes to people looking in her mouth. Unless the tooth decides to go back down, which just seems like a cruel twist of nature, our little toothless wonder will be toothless no more. So far, teething has not made her fussy but oh the drool! If only we could harness the power of baby drool for something like an alternative to gas. Sleeping has not been so great of late, which is likely related to the teething issue and will hopefully work itself out before too long. We have had exactly one night where Emma slept through the night and that was almost too long ago to remember. Lately we have been up at least four times a night. Thankfully she goes back down pretty quickly with the exception of earlier this week when she was ready to party at 2am. Brad took some pictures of Emma this week out in front of the clematis, which is blooming like crazy. All the rain we have been getting has really made the plants and flowers happy.

There She Rolls
On Saturday, there were two unwitnessed rolls from the back to the tummy. In the first case, I came in to find Emma in her crib on her tummy with one leg stuck out between the slats in the crib (yet, bumper pads are less safe?). In the second case, I had Emma on our bed and turned around for a second only to turn back and find her on her tummy. So yesterday I made the comment to Emma that we knew she could roll but only wanted to do it when nobody was watching. On that note, she decided to show her mommy and daddy that she could roll with all eyes fixed on her. Now that she has started, there doesn't seem to be any stopping her. She makes it look so easy like she has been doing it forever. Let the fun begin. Since Emma does have lots of family in/from the "Show Me State", we are happy to offer the proof of her newest feat.

Our First Blog Entry
Is it time to jump on the bandwagon and join the blogging world? After enjoying so many of your blogs we have decided to give it a go and see if we can keep it up. We'll continue to use our homepage to post additional photos so check back there from time to time as well.
On with the Emma news. This week she has added more than just rice cereal to the menu (I don't think she was sorry to see the rice cereal fall by the wayside). So far, she has tried both green beans and sweet potatoes, which were both big hits! We are glad she is enjoying her vegetables and hope that it keeps up. Emma also rediscovered how much fun it is to blow raspberries, which makes eating all that more exciting. Emma is still working on getting from her back to her stomach and is so close but not quite there. She doesn't seem to have enough counterbalance to get completely over yet. Emma loves when daddy makes silly voices and tickles her. We love hearing her laugh!
