Louisville Trip

Late June/July was memorable for all the wrong reasons.  In late June, G.G. got sick and was hospitalized.  Her health took a turn and she was put into hospice care.  I was able to make a trip back to Louisville to spend some time with her before she passed.  We were able to FaceTime with Emma and Josh from the hospital room and G.G. blew them a kiss.

Upon my return from Louisville, Emma had her front two teeth knocked out when she was running to first base at softball and the on deck batter was running to the plate.  The batters helmet hit Emma straight in the mouth.  Fortunately, within 24 hours, and thanks to two wonderful dentists, her teeth looked great again.

Shortly after I returned, we lost G.G.   The four of us made plans to head back to Louisville to celebrate the life of a wonderful woman.  The day before we were leaving, we got a call from Lake Nixon that Emma had a fever of 105.  Off to the doctor we went and she was diagnosed with strep.  After a few rounds of antibiotics, she was feeling better but was kind enough to pass it off me.  It hit me like a ton of bricks the afternoon of the funeral and the drive home the next day was not real fun.

On the bright side, the kids had a great time playing with the Louisville crew.  We don't see them near enough so it was a great opportunity to be together even if the reason for the trip was sad.
