Six Month Update

Emma had her six month check-up and shots yesterday. She may have started out life as a little peanut in the 5th percentile for weight and 15th percentile for height but Emma has spent the last six months trying to catch up. As of yesterday, she weighed 15 lbs, 11 oz. (40-50th percentile) and was 25 1/2 inches (40-50th percentile) in height. Emma made the doctor laugh as she demonstrated how good her big toe is for sucking on. She also wowed her doctor by pushing back on those little legs. She is starting to get that belly off the ground and propelling herself backward. Brad said she scooted herself back a good 2-3 feet yesterday morning when they were playing. It is already getting hard to contain her; what will it be like when she is crawling? Emma really enjoyed playing with the paper on the exam table but was less than thrilled when it was time for her shots. She started crying in anticipation and was so upset after the first injection that her little face turned bright red and she couldn't get a sound out because she forgot to take a breath. Once she got it out, it was about the angriest cry that Brad and I have heard. Thankfully the crying was short lived after the shots were done but we were so happy to hear that there are no shots at the 9 month appointment; just a little finger prick. It's just too bad that they don't understand that this is all for their own good.

Thanks to my delaying some of the girls' shots, we're still not done with vaccines. I think they will finish up at the 2 year visit, but I am taking them individually for that appt. instead of the total insanity that has been triple doc visits thus far! I think Emma must be incredibly smart to already cry in anticipation of the shots... of course she will be, look who she has for parents!?!
