15 Month Update

Emma had a great appointment yesterday other than the having to get her weight, height, shots, and anything else that involved laying down on the examining table. She has no problem with the doctor listening to her lungs and heart and checking her ears as long as she is being held but lay her down and she is not a happy girl. Only two shots yesterday due to the fact that there is a national shortage on the HIB vaccine. If we are lucky, the shortage will remain until she is old enough not to need it anymore. Other than that, she has to get one more HepA vaccine and then she is done until four years old. Yeah! Emma continues to follow her growth curve; she is now 30 1/4 inches long (50th percentile) and 21 lbs 7 oz (25th percentile). She still doesn't have too many words, dada, bye, uh oh, mama, and turtle and then the first part of duck, ball, dog, doll. She also says something that is akin to thank you and I swear she said pancake the other morning. She may not be very verbal yet (at least in words that we understand) but Emma understands a lot. Our doctor said she was right on track and that by 18 months, she will probably just be exploding with words. We asked about peanut butter and were given the green light to give it a try near 18 months. When we got home from the doctor's office, Brad took Emma out back where we have some daffodils blooming to try and get some photos. Of course, it was like trying to heard cattle and while we also had some pretty little purple bulbs blooming (that I didn't get a chance to identify), those were all pulled apart. Hopefully there will be more to come. Without further adieu, here are some photos of Emma at 15 months old.

15 Months Old

Happy 15 months today Emma! We are off to the doctor's this afternoon for her check-up (something that Emma does not look forward to). I will give a complete update after the appointment tomorrow since we still have no internet at home (ARGHHHH!). The good news is that we now have a working heat unit upstairs as well and no more back-up in the kitchen sink. All I can say is thank goodness for the home warranty! We were out in the backyard last night and it turns out that one of our neighbors has a dog. Emma was so excited and stood there waving at him. We didn't get too close because while he was very friendly with me, he was very excited and jumping up and down. Didn't want her to be scared. She just loves dogs though. More to come including photos, which I know is what everybody really wants as opposed to my ramblings.

We Are In...For the Most Part

We spent our first night in the new house on Saturday after a full day of moving. Okay, so Brad and company moved while I hung out at the new house with Emma and tried to get things done when she would allow. There is still some stuff that needs to be moved, primarily clothes but all the big stuff is out. The kitchen is organized and the bed/crib are assembled; what else do you need. We had some great help from our friends Carl and John. In addition to moving all of our stuff, they also got the baseboard removed the water line installed for the refrigerator (it is no longer in the middle of the floor, yeah!). Carl also vacuumed all the lint out of the dryer. Who could ask for better help? The transition into the new house for Emma was seamless. She loves her new space especially all the room that she has in her bedroom without the guest bed. We weren't sure how she would sleep the first couple of nights but we didn't hear a peep out of her either night. Now it is on to the fun task of unpacking and then more photos of the house. Photos of Emma to come soon though. Guess who is going to be 15 months old this week? Wow!

Happy Feet

When you say to Emma, "Happy Feet", she usually stops what she is doing and does a little dance as seen in this video clip.

In other notes, Emma is living more peacefully with her shadow these days. She actually bent over to touch it on Monday. She still notices it but charges right on ahead.

Just Me and My Shadow

Emma discovered her shadow while we were outside on Saturday and she was terrified. It was one of those situations where you really want to laugh but you couldn't because she was really very scared. She would initially try to back away but when the shadow came with her, she would stop, whimper, and put her arms up so that either Brad and I would come save her. The thing is that she doesn't mind other shadows; just her own. All day and evening Saturday, she would halt dead in her tracks when she came across her shadow. Yesterday and today have been a little better; she is still wary but will keep going with whatever task she has in mind. I hope that she can learn to live peacefully with her shadow soon. Meanwhile, the moving is still underway. We had our new refrigerator delivered today and it doesn't fit. We are just going to need somebody to cut off a bit of the granite counter and we will be good to go. Otherwise, the truck is reserved for Saturday to move all the furniture. The end is in sight!
